Revolution Analytics would like to make it possible for students, educators and organizations working for the public good to have access to the same big data analytics capabilities that are being deployed with great success in the business world. To this end, we have created three complementary programs:

Individual Scholar Program

Qualified academics, students, faculty and researchers may download Revolution R Enterprise for use on a single workstation at no charge. Learn more.

Academic Institution Program

Qualified institutions may obtain a site license to use Revolution R Enterprise on workstations, servers and clusters, on site or in the cloud for an annual licensing fee of $999. Learn more, or contact us to purchase.

Public Service Program

Qualified, non-profit, public service organizaions working for the advancement of science, environmental issues, public safety,  health and humanitarian causes  may obtain a site license to use Revolution R Enterprise on workstations, servers and clusters, on site or in the cloud for an annual licensing fee of $999.  Learn more, or contact us to purchase.

 

Individual Scholar Program

Qualified academics: students, professors, post docs and researchers in good standing at accredited academic institutions are eligible to participate in Revolution Analytics Individual Scholar Program (ISP) at no cost. These individuals may download a single copy of Revolution R Enterprise for use on a single user PC or workstation. Revolution Analytics grants ISP participants the non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable right to use the Revolution R Enterprise software by a single approved user ONLY for his/her academic use on one installed PC or workstation. These details are spelled out in Revolution's End User Licensing Agreement (EULA)

As a condition for participating in the ISP, users must agree to occasional requests from Revolution Analytics to provide information about their use of RRE.

Limited Technical Support

Limited technical support for individuals participating in Revolution Analytics’ ISP program, which includes:

  • Up to 4 hours of telephone support to be used within 30 days of downloading the software, to address software installation issues
  • Email support: Revolution Analytics Support will respond to ISP email requests for support as workload permits
  • ISP participants have access to the forums, documentation and knowledgable at Revolution Analytics Technical Support Portal

Obtaining the Individual Scholar Program edition of Revolution R Enterprise

  • Complete our download form. Note that the form must be completed in its entirety.
  • After your application has been reviewed and approved, download details will be emailed to the address provided. You should expect to hear from us withing a few days of completing your form.

 

Academic Institution Program

Accredited academic teaching institutions, as defined in Revolution Analytics’ End User Licensing Agreement (EULA), may install Revolution R Enterprise on workstations, servers and clusters either on-site or in a cloud environment for yearly licensing fee of $999. The computing equipment on which Revolution Analytics’ software is installed must be under the control of the institution’s IT organization or a departmental administrator with the responsibility of maintaining integrity. Revolution Analytics grants AIP participants the non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable right to use the Revolution R Enterprise software on institution servers and workstations ONLY for academic research or teaching purposes as described in the End User License Agreement (EULA). As a condition of participating in the AIP the responsible parties at the institution agree:

  • To allow Revolution Analytics to publicize the use of Revolution Analytics software at their institution, including permitting Revolution Analytics to describe the institution’s use of the software in its Marketing and promotional materials
  • Provide Revolution Analytics with server configuration information, including number of cores in the servers on which the software is installed within 90 days of downloading the software
  • Respond to occasional requests from Revolution Analytics about the use of the software.

Use of the software is subject to Revolution Analytics’ EULA and is renewable yearly subject to compliance with the conditions of participation and the AIP licensing fee that is in effect at the time of the renewal.

Basic AIP Technical Support

The annual subscription for Revolution R Enterprise (AIP) includes support for software installation and IT related issues. AIP technical support is intended to ensure the proper installation and maintence of the software and to help system administrators verify that they have a properly functioning installation. Questions related to the R language, R add-on packages and statistical computing beyond clarification of the documentation of the R packages included with the RRE download are beyond the scope of the basic AIP Technical Support.  Institutions interested in technical support befond the basics described above may purchase additional support services through Revolution Analytics AdviseR programs. Additionally, faculty and staff at institutions participating in the AIP are able to purchase fully supported RRE workstation licenses at a discount. (See Benefits of AIP Participation below.)

Basic AIP Technical support includes:

  • Up to 3 named institution technical contacts who may open support cases
  • Unlimited email support from named contacts for IT and installation issues
  • Online case submission and management
  • Automatic notification and access to software updates
  • Clarification of functions and features of the included R packages
  • Clarification of base R and package documentation
  • Assistance in identifying and verifying the causes of suspected errors
  • Advice on bypassing identified errors if reasonably possible
  • Installation advice and assistance
  • Assistance identifying and troubleshooting performance issues
  • Revolution R Enterprise Documentation

Revolution Analytics will provide support to participants in either the ISP or AIP programs for either the most current software release or the immediate, previous release. Revolution Analytics will only commit to support Revolution R Enterprise software running on the operating systems and hardware platforms published on its website. To encourage experimentation Revolution Analytics will make reasonable efforts to assist ISP or AIP participants who desire to run Revolution R Enterprise on unsupported operating systems or hardware platforms but makes no guarantees and does not assume any obligations.

Benefits of AIP Participation

The AIP allows institutions to deploy Revolution R Enterprise on any workstation, server or cluster owned and administered by the university for academic purposes. The AIP license does not place restrictions on the number or types of computing machines.  This means that several groups withing a university may establish RRE in their own computing environments to support the full range of academic uses including general scholarship, research, teaching and internal institutional projects. Additionally, faculty, researchers, post doctoral students, and other employees of an institution participating in the AIP program may purchase commercial workstations licenses of Revolution R Enterprise at the following discounted rates:

Annual Revolution R Enterprise workstation license: $1,500

Commercial licenses are required for non-academic use (e.g. external consulting), and include full technical support services for licensed users.

Obtaining Revolution R Enterprise for Academic Institutions

An official representative (IT Manager, Department Head or person designated by one of these authorities) of a qualified academic institution may obtain Revolution R Enterprise software by contacting Revolution Analytics’ Sales Department.

 

Public Service Program

Revolution Analytics is committed to supporting non-profit, public service organizations that have a need to undertake statistical and machine learning analyses for the public good. Non-profit, public service organizations working for the advancement of science, environmental issues, public safety, health and humanitarian causes may obtain a site license for Revolution R Enterprise (RRE), Revolution Analytics’ flagship product, for an annual fee of just $999. RRE software including RevoScaleR, Revolution’s R package for Big Data, may be installed in software labs, servers, clusters including Hadoop installations and other platforms that are both local and “in the cloud”.  Revolution Analytics grants PSP participants the non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable right to use the Revolution R Enterprise software on institution servers and workstations ONLY for non-commercial purposes as described in the End User License Agreeement). Contact us to purchase. Moreover, Revolution Analytics' PSP program includes basic technical support as described below.

Reasons to use Revolution R Enterprise for Public Service Causes

  1. Work with very large data sets within the familiar R environment
  2. Gain access to high performance Parallel External Memory Algorithms (PEMAs) for statistical analyses and machine learning applications
  3. Develop algorithms on a PC and run them on a large cluster

Qualifying for the Public Service Program

In general, non-profit, public services organizations with annual operating budgets less than $10M who work in one of the 10 subcategories from the  GuideStar website listed below and who have registered with the IRS will be eligible for the PSP program. All applications, however, are evaluated on a case-by-case base. The qualifying GuideStar subcategories are:

  1. Conservation and Environmental Education 
  2. Pollution
  3. Diseases and Disease Research
  4. Medical Disciplines and Specialty Research
  5. Public Safety, Disaster Preparedness and Relief
  6. International Development and Relief Services
  7. International Human Rights
  8. Civil Rights and Liberties
  9. Philanthropy, Voluntarism, and Public Benefit
  10. Voter Education and Registration
To qualify for the program institutions must agree:
  1. Not to use Revolution’s software for commercial gain.
